In these troubled times besieged as we are on all fronts... from the health crisis of Covid-19, to the financial crisis due to massive job losses and most importantly the mental health crisis because we CAN'T PLAY BILLIARDS at our local clubs, here are the latest rays of sunshine that signal times will change for the better
It's official. And for 3-cushion billiards it is not good news. The world federation of billiards, UMB, has published the list of 85 players who have been suspended starting July 15. For participation in international championships, World Cups, other UMB tournaments and confederation tournaments all players on the list (see below) will be forbidden to participate.
The United States Billiard Association 3-Cushion National Championship is scheduled May 16-19, 2019 at US Bida/Billiards in Houston, Texas. The USBA has been holding a series of qualifying tournaments across the country sending the best players to Houston with paid entry. Europe, led by Frederic Caudron, finished on top as the first World Team Trophy in cue sports concluded in Roissy-en-France near Paris. The event featured a new format of competition involving men and women competing in snooker, carom and pool all in the same arena. A professional league for billiards, a sport enjoyed by some 10 million Koreans as a hobby, has been scheduled to launch in Korea. The 3-Cushion Billiard world reacted with mixed feelings as the new upstart organization is seen as a threat to the UMB's exclusive hold on the governance of the sport.
The World Confederation of Billiards Sports, the International group bidding for cue sports to be added to the Olympic program, must now target the 2028 Games in Los Angeles after missing out on Paris 2024.
The world's best and scores of hopefuls kicked-off the first world cup in the 2019 cycle. Meeting in Antalya, Turkey the event ran from February 10-17. Preliminary qualification rounds were followed by the main event culminating in the finals held in single elimination knock-out format.
